Digital birth certificates coming in the new year

In the upcoming year, the transition to a digital era continues as driver's licenses and vaccine certificates have been followed by the introduction of digital birth certificates. It seems that paper documents will soon become unnecessary in many cases.

Victor Dominello, the Customer Service and Digital Minister, has unveiled the vision of the New South Wales government for the future, and it revolves around the convenience of your smartphone. Starting next year, residents will have the ability to store their first aid certificate and birth certificate directly in their digital wallet.

Service NSW is preparing to launch a digital wallet that will include digital birth certificates in 2022. Furthermore, the state government is developing an educational wallet that will serve as a repository for high school certificates, diplomas, university degrees, Duke of Edinburgh awards, and surf life saving certificates.

"All the credentials you acquire throughout your life can be stored in your educational wallet within the service app," explained Mr. Dominello in an interview with 9News.
